At URBICSA, our commitment to sustainability is not just an idea of the future, but a reality that guides all our actions. With the firm conviction that environmental sustainability and social responsibility are fundamental to our development, we align our operations with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), actively contributing to the 2030 Agenda.
Since the beginning of our concession, we have implemented tangible measures that reflect this commitment. Among them, the reduction of electricity consumption and the improvement of efficiency in our air conditioning and water management systems. These actions not only allow us to optimize the use of resources, but also consolidate us as leaders in sustainability in our sector.
For more than a decade, we’ve worked to minimize our environmental impact. Thanks to these initiatives, we have managed to reduce energy consumption from 24,922 MWh in 2010 to 13,550 MWh in 2023. This improvement has had a direct effect on the reduction of CO2 emissions, reaching a reduction of almost 4,000 tonnes per year.
Currently, URBICSA continues to develop various projects that are part of a strategic sustainability plan, with the aim of consolidating itself as a benchmark in responsible and environmentally friendly practices. This plan not only seeks to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, but also to promote efficiency and innovation in all our processes. Below, we highlight some of the most recent initiatives, illustrating our commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement.
Participation in the ‘SDGs for Flag’ campaign
Our collaboration in the ‘SDGs by Flag’ campaign, led by the UN Global Compact Spain, reaffirms our commitment to global sustainability. This initiative allows us to share experiences and collaborate with other entities that, like us, work for a more responsible and sustainable future.
Implementation of hydraulic saving measures
In addition, as part of our commitment to SDG 6 “Clean water and sanitation”, we have installed more efficient taps in La Ciutat de la Justícia, achieving a 45% reduction in water consumption. This initiative, together with the reuse of taps by the Generalitat de Catalunya, underlines our commitment to the Circular Economy and SDG 11 “Sustainable cities and communities”.

Retrofit air conditioning modernization
In line with the circular economy and energy efficiency, we have improved our air conditioning systems. The retrofit process has allowed us to modernize obsolete equipment, obtaining energy savings of more than 30% compared to previous systems, which also reinforces our commitment to the SDGs related to environmental protection.

Innovative anti-limescale technology to increase water supply efficiency
The Ciutat de la Justícia has integrated cutting-edge technology into its groundwater and sanitary water network to efficiently combat the formation of limescale. This innovative system uses electrical energy to modify the crystalline structure of minerals present in water, such as calcium and magnesium, responsible for the incrustations that damage equipment.

Thanks to this technological solution, it has been possible to reduce by 75% the costs associated with the maintenance and replacement of sanitary equipment, which previously suffered from the accumulation of mineral deposits. In addition, as it does not require chemicals, the technology is completely environmentally friendly, contributing to the sustainability of the facilities.
At URBICSA, as a concessionaire company of La Ciutat de la Justícia de Barcelona and l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, we remain committed to the well-being of our community, continuously promoting actions that improve the quality of life, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Because at URBICSA we have these Objectives as our flagship.
